After trying a whole bunch of themes, I still very much like Silver Light, and I shall use it even though it’s not responsive. So Bah.

If I had the time and energy, I think I could use Claude to jimmy up a responsive version of Silver Light. But I don’t. Anyone wanna do it for me :p

In any case, Google’s AI has significantly discouraged search traffic to the actual web. I doubt anyone would stumble across this site like they had for the original nomakegirl blog, so I don’t feel so bad that this version shall be quite unreadable on mobile.

Speaking of the original blog, I saw my old speaker setup in 2005. Forgot it was a Denon. Damn I should have kept that MD player. I still have so many MDs. I should get them converted to files…

And, the new space on the right, 21 years later. Ghetto speaker testing setup with Rotel CD player and amp from 2009. It sounded pretty good! I need to use this room more, especially since I invested so much in it. Not pictured here, the later additions of Lyngdorf TDAI 3400, Panasonic UB820 BDP, and Sony Bravia 8. I have almost all I need to have a great concert viewing setup. Yes, I should really give it a whirl.

Adolescence of Utena is coming to the big screen?!

So apparently, Utena the Movie is being released in US theaters. Didn’t have this on my bingo card for 2026, but then again I didn’t think Patlabor would get a remake either. And this is definitely much better news than “bomb the shit out of the Middle East”.

Utena is a classic, Ikuhara at his peak (IMHO). He took everything he wanted to do after Sailor Moon S but couldn’t, pumped it up a hundred fold, sprinkled copious amounts of acid, and voila, Utena. I watched the second half in Japanese kinda in real time, and so missed out a lot of nuance. Been telling myself I wanted to rewatch and do it justice, but somehow never got around to it. Well, about 10 years ago I made it to Nanami turns into a cow and somehow didn’t get further (gee why).

So news of the movie is a great reminder of this incredible work! Second season was gut wrenching, so real and full of the ugliness of the real world, and that’s why everyone will remember it as a masterpiece.

Such a kickass soundtrack too, movie and anime both. Can’t wait to listen to it on the JBL 100s when I can finally set them up.

To-Do

WP is up. Theme isn’t great (need to make text san-serif) but it’s functional. Now I should find a decent top image.

The two important things for this iteration:-

1. As a place to write and express myself and my hobbies. Writing (and consequently thinking) has been sorely lacking for the last 15 years and I feel my brain has rotted on internet consumption and doom scrolling.
2. Put up all the old content that I salvaged from wayback machine. As someone who seems to have a rather bad memory of life experiences, possibly related to aphantasia, I was overjoyed that the old nomakegirl had been archived.

Yomigaeru

Trying to figure out how to use WordPress 20 years later. How do I make an ABOUT page? Can I change the colour of text blocks? In this modern world of social media, why on earth am I trying to make a new blog that looks like my old blog? Yes, perhaps this is my version of “mid-life crisis after crossing two-thirds life”. See you on the not-so-wild side.
